The project, called "Synchronicities", was first conceived in late 2018 when I realised how music could engage and connect with my work on a deeper and more emotional level. The idea is to visually and audibly guide the viewer through a series of musical interpretations of my work with the anticipation of creating a complete immersive and even spiritual experience.
The project is being developed alongside Dartmoor musician Neil H. He is creating music unique to this project which includes images that I have created specially, although there will be a few images that will be more familiar to those who have been following my work for a few years. But in the main, this project is entirely unique. The installation will be around an hour long and will feature on a DVD release, hopefully by the end of 2020. The most exciting aspect is that the installation will be projected live to the soundtrack or with the music being played live - watch this space! I am also considering a limited edition box set of the DVD with a set of prints to be made available online and direct from us at live events.
The title "Synchronicities" was created while reading a book - the word synchronise was in the text and this was just after I "asked" for a title to be sent. In creative terms it signifies the merging of two art forms and of course the merging of two amazing talents at the helm!
So what sort of music will be heard on this project? Well for fans of the EM genre, it will be music to their ears! But even if not, it is anticipated that the completed video will be a great experience as an audio visual art form as a whole and in terms of how the viewer is engaged along the "journey". The "journey" will take the viewer on a ride through imaginary realms and dreamscapes where the music and images are the "guiding lights". Therefore, the tools that were used to create the project are secondary to the finished piece of work. In short, the whole installation will be something to experience as whole on many levels.
More updates will be posted as the weeks and months progress. In the meantime, you are invited to like our Facebook Page "Synchronicities" and please visit Neil's website at www.neilhofficial.online
From top to bottom: "Dream Sequence I", Dream Sequence II" and "Dream Sequence III".
Taking the inspiration from dreams again - much like my "Manifestation of Dreams" series - this trio of new works are designed to be seen together, but would I am sure work equally as well as separate pieces. The dreams in this series are a reaction to my own subconscious dreams. When I dream at night I do not dream in colour nor are my dreams very pleasant. In fact, that are downright bizarre or even quite scary at times. When I am out in nature in among trees, woodland and any beautiful landscape, I will always stop and absorb the beautiful energy of my surroundings and "dream" or meditate. My surroundings root me firmly in reality while my mind ponders over life and even "seeks answers" if you like......I then I bring myself back to self-awareness. However my subconscious dreams root me, as I am sure they do to many of us, in unreality in a totally bizarre world of strange images and situations. These new artworks tell a story on two levels: one is the intensity of dreams, "Sequence I" being lighter and ethereal, "Sequence II" being darker and "Sequence III" being powerful and highly psychedelic. However I have depicted these sequences in reality - the backdrop of the woodland and the pathway - as an "escape route" from the bizarre nature of the dreams. I wasn't inspired to create dream sequences purely from imagination but rather to create a backdrop of a real place.....Something I'd rather dream about.....!
This piece continues the theme of dream manifestation. On a personal level, these pieces I hold in high regard due to them being illustrative of the kind of dreams I'd actually like to, well, dream! But also it continues with my ever popular themes of lands of mystery and wonder that invites the viewer (or participant even) to forge a more spiritual insight into our lives, break free from the realities of every day modern life and for a while just meditate and help to harness a sense of awe and wonder at what may lie beyond our physical plane......
The narrative of this piece was inspired by the mythical land of Hyperborea (from Greek mythology) "beyond where the cold north winds blow" to a land of eternal light and warmth. A land inhabited by a super-race in the same vein as Atlantis and Lemuria. In the distance can be seen an outline of the mythical land. However this piece is more a suggestion rather than an illustration of Hyperborea itself. The title of this piece was also inspired - more, perhaps stumbled upon - by the title of the 1983 album by the German electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream. I'm a big fan of electronic music as I find certain styles connect well with my art!
