"In Search of Hyperborea" will be exhibited for the first time at the Dartington event. This piece has an interesting back story. It has been created from a black and white print from a film negative that I processed back in 1994! The original photo was of a single tree in a field. The photo was scanned and digitised and then the rest created digitally using my usual software and techniques. The narrative of this piece was inspired by the mythical land of Hyperborea (from Greek mythology) "beyond where the cold north winds blow" to a land of eternal light and warmth. A land inhabited by a super-race in the same vein as Atlantis and Lemuria. In the distance can be seen an outline of the mythical land. However this piece is more a suggestion rather than an illustration of Hyperborea itself. The title of this piece was also inspired - more, perhaps stumbled upon - by the title of the 1983 album by the German electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream. I'm a big fan of electronic music as I find certain styles connect well with my art!
