The Shaman's Tree
This best selling artwork is a great talking point among visitors to my stand at festivals! A lone beech tree stands sentinel in a clearing in local woodland and had a great presence that just drew me in. Simple 180 degree mirror imaging has been employed resulting in a surreal but outstanding example of the technique. The result is a large bull-like head or that of a ram with long horns. Other faces in the trunks are clearly seen including the face of a lion or cat further down the trunk. Closer inspection will reveal other faces peeing out at you although some are other-worldly, like something out of Tolkein's Middle Earth! The title came much later when I was reading about Shamanism and the image of a Shaman whirling in a trance and morphing into the Spirts of animals. In Shamanism, the practitioner reaches altered states of consciousness in order to perceive and interact with the Spirit world and channel these transcendental energies into this world. And here they are.....!
